More about the place

The Frey hut stands by Laguna Toncek, near Villa Catedral. It is built of stone with a tiled roof and is a classic for climbers, because of the Frey spires. The trail is about 10 km with 700 m of elevation gain and starts at the car park at the base of Cerro Catedral or at the ranger campsite on Lake Gutiérrez.

The Jakob (San Martín) hut stands by Laguna Jakob and was rebuilt after the 2017 fire. The trail starts at the Báez dairy farm, on provincial route 70, and is 18 km long with 800 m of elevation gain. The crossing between Jakob and Segre has a technical section and is recommended only for experienced hikers.

Bookings are made at clubandino.org and, for any hike, you must register at nahuelhuapi.gov.ar.
